Skye Gravestones

Skyegravestones supports an image library of gravestone inscriptions on Skye, Scalpay and Raasay, islands off the west coast of Scotland.  Both are now within Highland Council's area, and were formerly in Inverness-shire.

The Headstone Photos button links to the headstone/inscription images database, which covers deaths on legible stones up to the end of 1979**.  The database can be searched using Quick Search, or by name and/or burial ground in Advanced Search.

The Burial Grounds page lists those covered with links to individual burial grounds.

Use the maps and information via the Parishes and Burial Ground buttons to help find your way around the geography of the islands' burial grounds.  To aid navigation, these buttons are also at the bottom of individual headstone image pages.

There is no charge for using the database.  If you wish to copy information or images, it would be good if you acknowledge this site as its source.

Skye is an impressive island.  It may appear relatively small (about 50 miles from top to toe), but, because of its geography and the wealth of things to see and do, even a cursory visit would require at least three days. NB. Skye gets brimful in summer, so book early!

Our sister site gravestones.rosscromartyroots.co.uk covers the nearby mainland county of Ross & Cromarty, which includes Lochalsh.

I live on the Black Isle, near Inverness, and have roots long-established in Sleat, Skye.
