William & Mary (Nicolson) Martin, Angus & Flora.

Erected/by JOHN MARTIN/in/memory of/his father/WILLIAM MARTIN/who died at Steinshall/in January 1848 aged 78 years/and his mother/MARY NICOLSON/who died 14th September 1862/aged 80 years/also of his brother/ANGUS, who died 22nd September 1839/aged 25 years/and his sister/FLORA who died 7th April 1887/aged 72 years.

John Martin was the son of Martin Martin tacksman of Flodigarry. See Clan Donald History, vol. 3.

The John Martin hospital in Uig was built at his direction from the proceeds of his estate after his death. John was a Planter.

Correction: William Martin was the son of Martin Martin Tacksman of Flodigarry. He married Mary Nicolson. John Martin who built the hospital was their son.

William Martin died in Blythswood, Glasgow on 15 Jul 1870. Violet Married John Boyd in 1859 in Abbey, Paisley and died 10 June 1915 in Hillhead, Glasgow.

"The Clan Donald: Genealogy of Clan Donald" Volume 3 (online) has reference to the Martins of Skye.

I have the 2 Edits of Executory of Martin Martin, tacksman of Flodigarry also. One was a replacement for the other.

The lineage of the above should read: John Martin (tacksman of Flodigarry), then Martin Martin tacksman of Flodigarry (wife Margaret MacLean), then Lieut John Martin of Flodigarry who had 3 sons William (Innkeeper of Staffin);Donald (Paymaster in the army, then merchant of Greenock) and later Angus (planter in the West Indies).
