we are doing some research into the branch of the Lamont (Neill) family that came over to Belfast in the 1880/90's. Neill returned to Skye after his wife died in Belfast in the 1930's and lived with his daughter Annie and his son in law Alex Macleod in Lusta until his death in Dec 1939. Mary and Alex are buried in Trumpan graveyard (image859) but we would dearly love to find if there is a marker for Neill.

Jean, I think you meant Annie not Mary?

Where did Neill die?

Yes you are right about Annie, sorry. Neill's wife was called Mary. She died and is buried in Belfast with other family members. It appears that Neill incredibly returned to Skye in his 80's (which I imagine was quite an undertaking at his age) and lived his last few years with Annie (his daughter and her husband Alex) in Lusta. He is recorded as dying there on December 29th 1939. There are some family travelling over to Skye in September and it would be lovely if we were able find where Neill is buried.

Looks like Trumpan or Edinbane would be most likely candidates for his burial. It's possible that there was no headstone, or it's been lost eg. under turf.

Highland Council should hold records of lairs for these graveyards. Maybe be worth contacting them. However, i) they record purchasers of lairs rather than who is buried, though sometimes these are included, ii) the records are held in ledgers not online so are quite awkward to search. If you are overseas they may be more willing to help.

I will have a go with the council Roddie. Thankyou so much for all your help. You've been very generous. I will let you know if we have any luck tracking him down.
